Key Insights on Top Websites in the United States in August 2026
Google and YouTube together capture more than half of visits across the 150 most visited websites in the United States in August 2026. Google leads with 24.54 billion visits, followed by YouTube with 10.43 billion and Reddit with 2.57 billion. The top five positions remain unchanged from July. YouTube draws over four times Reddit's traffic, creating a substantial gap between the two leaders and the rest of the ranking.
Below the leaders, three moves stand out. Peacock nearly halves its traffic, falling 48.7% to 56.0 million visits and dropping from No. 72 to No. 123. Its percentage decline is more than twice the next-largest drop among sites present in both months. Instructure moves from No. 61 to No. 43 as visits rise 30.9% to 179.2 million, the strongest percentage growth among those sites. NBC News records the largest rank gain, climbing 31 places to No. 114 with 16.6% more visits.
The broader pattern among the most popular websites in the United States is declining traffic alongside increasing concentration. Total visits across the listed 150 sites fall 3.7% to 67.75 billion. Of the 141 domains appearing in both months, 124 lose traffic. Yet the top 10 increase their share of listed visits from 68.55% to 69.32%. Their combined traffic falls, but they retain a larger portion of the total as visits elsewhere shrink faster.
YouTube is the clearest exception to that decline. It is the only top-20 website with rising visits, adding 162.6 million month over month. Its 1.6% growth looks modest, but delivers nearly four times Instructure's additional visits—the second-largest absolute gain among domains appearing in both months.
